Week 1 – Muskegon River
For the early fish Wednesday, John and Kyle Randle in one boat, and Steve and Karen Bohren in another boat kicked off the 2017 FishFerris season with five fish. Karen hauled in three with a total weight of 5 pounds 13 ounces while John R caught two at 3 pounds 5 ounces. It looked like we were going to have a brand new leader on the board with Karen’s catch. Though it was quite warm, Wednesday’s evening’s weather conditions were much more desirable than what would be to come.
On Thursday, in the wind, rain, and cold, a 20 degree temperature drop occurred from 5pm to 7pm. The river was moving fast with the recent rain and the spillway area of Roger’s Dam having two gates open. John Urbanick and Bob Walles were the only two to catch fish. John caught four with a total weight of 4 pounds 7 ounces, and is in first place bumping Karen to second. However, Karen caught the largest fish at 2 pounds 8 ounces. Bob has honorable mention with a large Sucker. John Randle’s standing is in third place with 3 pounds 5 ounces. Nine qualifying fish were caught and it was a good start to the FishFerris 2017 season.
