The Past Three Years on Roger’s Pond
Roger’s Pond has not been one of the highest producing areas since 2012 when compared to all of our fishing locations, but it has produced some respectable numbers of mostly Smallmouth with an occasional Largemouth Bass. FishFerris Members have caught more than 45 feet of Bass weighing in at over 56 pounds in Roger’s Pond! 58% of these have been caught in the month of May. The go to bait is soft plastic and accounts for 92% of these catches. The soft plastic of choice is mainly a tube while some have been successful with worms and sinking minnows. The remaining 8% have been caught with crankbaits such as a Silver Countdown Rapala and a Lipless Pink Rat-L-Trap.
The largest Smallmouth catch on Roger’s goes to Rick Manuszak. A 3 Lb 1 Oz male was caught in May 2014 on a soft plastic Watermelon Red Yum Crawfish. I was there when Rick hauled it in. That was a great fish outing and nice to see the smile on Rick’s face after that catch.
2012 was the best year with 18 Bass caught. Mike Johnson limited out that year while John Urbanick came close with four on the scoreboard. 2013 was the worst year with four. 2014 had eight and 2015 seven.
Remember, Roger’s Pond is the Muskegon River and though we have had more luck on the lower side of the dam, the fishing is similar. The more you travel upstream, the more it resembles the landscape below the dam with sand and rocks. Good luck this week!
