Clear Lake has been on the schedule ever since the first year (2006) of FishFerris. It has accounted for 95 Bass at a total length of 120 feet 7 1/4 inches. The weight is an astonishing 151 Lbs 13 Oz and not a single Smallmouth. Soft plastic has been the predominant bait with an occasional crankbait or spinner being successful.
The first fishing on Clear Lake this year did not disappoint. In the 10th year of this club’s existence, 20% of the fish caught on this lake were caught last week! This may be a testament that members are becoming better at Bass fishing since one-fifth of the catches on this lake over the past 10 years just occurred. Also, there is still one more time to fish this lake later this summer that should supplement the numbers for 2016 even more.
Nineteen Bass were caught that weighed in at 32 Lbs 10 Oz and measured just under 25 feet. Every fish was caught on soft plastic. All but one of the many fish that I caught came directly after the cast as the bait sank to the bottom. When I felt some resistance, I waited about five seconds and set the hook. With so much mono line out, the hook set stretched the line, and my hookup ratio was better than 50%. One fish, and the largest I caught that night came midway during the retrieve. It was a great evening fishing for many members.
